GetTaxi is now available on Android, iPhone and BlackBerry and is London’s first free new generation taxi app.

How does it work?

GetTaxi enables people to hail a taxi from their mobiles and allows you to track your taxi on a real time map and pay by credit card, cash or account straight from your phone. It is the only app of its kind available on all three major mobile platforms. It is easier and quicker to order a licensed London Black Taxi, with no charges above the taxi meter, no credit card fees and a user-friendly set of features making it the coolest way to get a black cab:

· Order a taxi in just a tap: no more stroppy call centres, irritating hold music or mysterious whereabouts of the taxi

· See the taxi making it’s way to pick you up on a real-time map, from the office, pub or club

· Get the knowledge on your driver: see your driver’s photo, phone number and registration number sent straight to your phone, for complete safety and peace of mind

· Cashless cabs: Pay for your GetTaxi ride directly through your pre-registered credit card for free

· No card handling charges – and no late night fumbling for coins, looking for cash machines or your card

· Receive email receipts to easily expense your GetTaxi journeys through your company

· Share your journey with your friends through Twitter and Facebook

· Rate your Taxi driver and see their overall star rating

The GetTaxi mobile app automatically geographically locates the passenger via GPS and issues their request to the closest available taxis via GetTaxi’s special TFL approved driver units. It brings easy, super-safe and innovative digital taxi ordering to the masses, putting the user in control.

Get Taxi will also soon launch TaxiMiles, rewarding people for the trips they take and sharing the app with friends. Points are redeemable against a variety of gifts, and can also cover free taxi rides, rewarding users in three levels of usage: Newbie, Pioneer and Evangelist.

The Corkcicle is the perfect solution for wine lovers who want to maintain their wine at its optimum temperature.

No more messy ice buckets or ice cubes in your chablis with the Corkcicle you chill your wine from within. It looks like an icicle with a cork on top (hence the name!) that is filled with a thermal gel. Store in the freezer and when you open chilled wine, pop in the corkcicle and it will maintain the temperature for an hour. Once you’ve finished drinking just rinse and pop back in the freezer for the next time. You can even use it with red wine too. Perfect wine every time.

Price £19.99

This is my Jam is a cool new music sharing site where you can recommend tracks to your friends and followers.

Each week you can pick a new track (your “jam”), which is optionally shared over Twitter and Facebook. Your friends will similarly be recommending tracks and you can listen to them all in one set list – a kind of mix tape for the 21st century. You can also listen to a random jam, drawn from the thousands on the site, or a popular jam, which has had the most listens this week.

One downside of the site is that the list of songs is not comprehensive, but this has been nicely sidestepped by allowing subscribers to also select their jam from YouTube music videos, widening the selection considerably.

In many areas of my life, I can be pigeon-holed – I’m a liberal, a geek and a technophile.

But when it comes to which flavours of technology I subscribe to I can’t be pinned down. Of course no-one is fanatically pro-Microsoft any more but nor am I an Apple diehard. I appreciate the pros of Android openness but I also understand the cons.

This approach has many benefits, but it does have one disadvantage. Unlike the Apple only extremists my iPad and phone can’t work together. They can’t run the same software and I can’t take advantage of the really neat Scrabble feature where you can use your phone as a tile rack.

In fact I have not only an iPad and a Nexus One (Android) phone but also a windows netbook and even a MacBook for video editing. And I need to use the same software across all of them.

Luckily we’re starting to see lots of solutions that let us do exactly that. Dropbox allows me to seamlessly copy files and is now even integrated with many apps such as iTalk for the iPhone.

There are also many note sharing systems starting to arise, and the one I’ve found that suits me best is Evernote. Recommended by a colleague who uses it for work meetings (high praise indeed) I can take and sync notes across my iPad, Android phone, laptop, desktop and Mac. Phew!

What the Sky+HD 1TB box does:

This exclusive collection not only offers quirky, eye-catching gadgets to liven up any living room, bedroom or study but also gives people flexible control over a wide choice of programmes from Sky.

Sky+HD also gives access to over 50 HD channels, lets people record up to 240 hours of HD or 740 hours of standard definition programmes, and enables viewers to record two channels while watching a third recorded programme at the same time or even set the box to record something from a smart phone or iPad while on the move – 2 million customers now use this remote record function.

The box is also 3D-ready, so anyone with a 3D TV can watch Sky 3D at no extra cost with a subscription to Sky World HD. And with Sky Anytime+ you can choose from a huge library of TV programmes, box sets and movies to watch on demand.

Since it launched in 2001, Sky+ has revolutionised the way we watch TV and is now used more than 35million times a day, making it easy for viewers to record on-the-go and catch theirfavourite TV programmes when they want.

More than 8.3 million homes now have Sky+. That’s more than those with cats (5.7 million) dogs (5.8 million) and even children (7.7 million)!
