Gigaset presents the UK’s first touchscreen home phone

Touchscreen technology is almost taken for granted when it comes to Tablet PCs and smartphones around the home, but the feature which makes these devices easy and enjoyable to use now finds a new outlet, arriving in the UK’s cordless home phone market courtesy of Gigaset. The Gigaset SL910A makes scrolling through phonebook entries, dialing numbers, or viewing photos simple and accessible.

The SL910A’s outstanding screen resolution delivers a crisp and clear user interface, complete with photo caller display, and slideshow in standby functions, thereby adding an extra element of fun to the conventional home telephone. Awarded a Red Dot Design Award for its high-gloss polished metal frame, piano black battery cover, and discreet chrome-plated charging cradle, this elegant phone is a must for any modern household.

The SL910A allows users to configure their personal preferences, just like a Smartphone, including the use of calendars, an analogue clock, important contacts and caller lists. These are just some of the useful functions that can be easily dragged and dropped onto the home screen, making for a truly personalised home phone experience.

Home optimised ringtones and contact picture clips are among some of the many practical features the SL910A provides as standard. During calls, users are also presented with useful icons enabling hands-free calling, call holding, volume control, mute and the phonebook feature to quickly locate family and friends’ contact details.

The 6.8cm x 4.5cm high-resolution colour display of the SL910A really comes in to its own when displaying photos, of which up to 240 can be stored on the phone. Photo slideshows can be created and the phone can be set to display these slideshows at times of inactivity, so you’re never left looking at a blank screen. Group calling and integrated handsfree usability are hassle free with the SL910A, as its powerful separate loudspeaker can be adapted to the needs of different household conditions using four different handsfree profiles.

The SL910A’s extensive phonebook feature can store up to 500 contact entries, each with as many as eight numbers. Loved ones details can be stored with an attached photo which is displayed when each contact calls, and important contacts can even be stored to the customisable home screen. To ensure the SL910A’s phonebook is always up to date users even have the option of syncing with their outlook directory of a Mac or PC.

Price £139.99

Guest Post: Tweet your way to the perfect job!

Social media has taken off massively in recent years and many people now rely on this medium for a whole host of things, including applying for jobs. So the question begs to be asked, how do you use social media to its maximum effect when applying for a job?

Most people know the ‘big three’: Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Whether you are applying for IT jobs or any other vacancy in other industry, you can definitely use social media to your advantage.

As the job market has evolved over the last few years many people have taken to the internet in search of a new job and social media is at the forefront of this revolution. As companies seek to reduce their spending they have re-evaluated the way that they advertise jobs, and the quickest way to reach new employees is through their Twitter, LinkedIn or Facebook pages. Some companies even have their own job streams on Twitter. By doing this companies can also guarantee that the people applying for jobs with their company want to work for them. Although companies still use recruitment services and online jobsites to advertise vacancies, social media adds a new dimension to both job searches and recruitment.

So how do you take advantage of this new found phenomenon? Firstly you should prepare your Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn for the eyes of a prospective employer; they do not need to see you getting drunk at fresher’s week! Neither do they need to know that you hated your last job. Make sure that your pages are employer friendly, and if you don’t want them to see certain things then upgrade your privacy levels.

LinkedIn and Twitter are the best mediums for your job search. Facebook, although having some merits should just be moderated rather than being explored. LinkedIn has rocketed into the limelight in recent years and is designed solely for the purposes of networking. By creating a profile on this site you are joining a whole host of professionals looking for employees. To start you should build up your profile, by adding your past employment history and a suitable picture. You should remain in contact with your previous colleagues and employers through the site and if possible ask your last employer to recommend you on the site.

Twitter is a brilliant way to keep track of current opportunities, companies and CEOs. Try to follow specific job feeds or the companies you want to work for. By interacting with these groups and people you can keep up-to-date with companies and opportunities.

Social media is a great way to find a job, so tweet away!
