Review: New LED Backlit LCD TVs from Sharp

Sharp has unveiled its first series of Full Screen white LED backlight TVs to hit the UK – the LE600 and LE700.  The LE600 is available in 32″, 40″ and 46″ models with the LE700 spanning the same range with the addition of a 52″ model.

All models combine Sharp’s award-winning AQUOS LCD technology with a Full-Screen LED backlight system delivering great image quality and energy-efficient, eco-friendly performance.

Picture Quality

Both of the new AQUOS LED models incorporate Sharp’s Full Screen LED backlight technology that illuminates the TV to extremely high brightness through hundreds of LEDs positioned directly behind the entire screen. The LEDs design includes a unique “double-dome” light amplifier lens and multi-fluorescents, enabling high brightness and colour purity. Furthermore to maximize the LED performance Sharp has developed the AQUOS Colour Engine, a new colour management system that has been developed exclusively to accentuate rich colour tones.

These series also incorporate Sharp’s next-generation Full HD 1080p X-Gen LCD panel which will be forged at the World’s first 10th Generation LCD plant. This is designed with an innovative pixel structure which drastically improves its transmissive rate allowing more light to pass resulting in brighter images. The combination of cutting edge panel and white LED technology delivers Mega contrast improving the perception of depth and clarity in every image.

Topping-off this premium series, the LE700 series utilises 100Hz technology and a rapid pixel response time of 4ms, providing the ultimate medium for high-definition viewing, ensuring viewers never miss a detail. The series also has an impressive 176-degree viewing angle, enabling the colour reproduction to appear bright and vivid from virtually anywhere in a room.

Sound

The picture quality of the series is ably supported by an equally impressive sound system that ensures dialogue, music and special effects are replicated with accuracy. With Dolby Digital Plus Surround Sound and two 10 Watt speakers, both the LE600 and LE700 offer a sound that is as clear as the on screen image. Automatic volume control and clear-voice technology are also included to adjust the sound level on loud sections of filmor television programmes and automatically differentiate between music and films.

Design

The TV is also equipped with a system designed to lower power consumption during use by adjusting the screen brightness based on the level of brightness in the room. In fact, this series offers 40% less power consumption than traditional LCD backlight technology. These TV series also use eco-friendly components and are mercury free with both the LE600 and LE700 being awarded the EU eco-label commendation.

Connectivity

These HD ready 1080p models boast an array of connection options, including four HDMI (v1.3 with Deep Colour) and a component video input, all of which are 1080p compatible, accepting signals from Blu-ray Disc(tm) players and advanced gaming devices. Additionally, Sharp’s AQUOS LINK feature allows users to seamlessly control Sharp compatible, HDMI-connected products using the TVremote control. The series also includes a USB photo/music player for the convenience of high-resolution digital photo viewing and MP3 music enjoyment on the TV.

My gadget of the week on Talk Radio Europe – BagTV

I love handbags so this fashion/tech handbag combo really caught my eye.  BagTV combines luxury handbags and high tech equipment to create a new concept in handbag design. Is this really going to be the latest must have fashion accessory? I’m not sure, it just makes it seem more nickable to me!

They come in a range of colours and fabrics and have a TV screen, DVD and Mpeg player integrated into the handbag design itself. It also has a USB and SD slot allowing connectivity to digital cameras and computers, so you could have a slideshow of your photos if you really wanted to – not sure why you want to do that on your handbag though.

You can play up to 2.5hours of movies on there before recharging with the mains or car charger. It definitely is a fashion statement and probably quite useful for busy mums who need to stick their kids in front of a movie when they are out an about.

It retails at around £199, for more details check out www.bagtv.com.
